Hello again! Here’s the music-related run-down for yesterday and today. I scouted out the Convention Center, which is attached to one side of the main lobby in the Contemporary Tower. I have always found the Welsh to be overwhelmingly friendly at all times, and this trip seems to be no exception! I met a lot of nice people and they were all incredibly helpful.
I made sure that Alan Thomas, the eisteddfod pianist, had everything he needed from me, and commenced waiting for my mother and grandmother to get to the hotel. Once they arrived, we all got dinner at the Concourse Steakhouse, which was excellent. Very yummy.
Today I rehearsed with Alan, officially. The ballroom we will be competing in is the same one we rehearsed in, but the acoustics leave something to be desired, and they think that with people in the audience the sound will be worse. They asked if I’d like to be amplified, and I declined on the grounds that I prefer singing without amplification… and besides which, all of the other singers declined as well. I can control my output – I can’t control a microphone! (That sounds silly when I write it, but I’m trying to be reasonably practical.)
The remainder of the day I spent exploring, rehearsing on my own, and spending time with my mother and grandmother – namely, trekking into the thick of Disney and eating at a neat sushi restaurant at the Swan Hotel. Tomorrow I compete, so more updates soon!
