Six Weeks on Whole Foods

To be fair, the person who wrote this article hasn’t yet revealed whether he will actually manage to survive on the victuals he purchased at Whole Foods for his $50 gift certificate—that six weeks of pasta and peanut butter that sounded so appetizing. I’m exaggerating, but only a little, as it does seem like pasta and peanut butter were the bulk of his purchases. But he only started on Sunday, give the man time!

When I moved to Austin, Whole Foods was my mecca. It was a bright shining light in the midst of a not-so-dim landscape, this city being what it is! And I still love that store, but I haven’t shopped there recently; I can’t afford to. And as much as it is tempting to attempt to live on the cheap items in a high quality store, it’s a little easier to live on the cheap items in an average quality store—HEB has great prices. That said, when I make a little more money… I will probably be shopping at Whole Foods a lot more often. Their building is like a vial of prozac, you can just step inside… “I’m in the milk and the milk’s in me…” Well, that’s a story for another day.

I hope Schliefkedude is successful in his brave endeavor—after all, a Whole Foods gift certificate must be spent at Whole Foods, and it is a worth experiment!—and I will be looking forward to knowing the results…
