[X] 02:00PM Fried / Torrone Keynote (Hilton / Grand Ballroom)
I am actually so sleepy I’m not sure how I’m going to make it the next four hours. Wow. Wowee. And I think maybe I got sunblock in my eyes… that’s ironic… because it rained today…. Should I eat another powerbar? Because I don’t think the powerbar I ate ten minutes ago is helping… or the chai from an hour ago… or the two bites of hummus wrap because it was soggy… or… actually the croissants and goat cheese were delicious.
So sleepy.
Ha! We’re talking about the Roomba! A new product called the Create is actually like the Roomba without the vacuum part—it’s just a robotics platform to play with. So people have been fooling with the Roomba. Someone mounted a hamster ball on the top, no way he means the hamster controls the direction of the Roomba… does he?!
Sounds like some folks are leaving the keynote for other panels… interesting. I’m actually too sleepy to get up off my butt at this point. The Firefox booth folks are wearing the tshirt I bought with the certificate Sean gave me, but instead of Mario, of course, they have Firefox logos and URLs, etc. I love that shirt, it’s so pretty. (One Firefox chickie is sitting in front of me, that’s why I thought of it…)
Apparently Ambient Devices released the schematics for their Ambient Orb, asked that people build their own and let them know how it went! That’s uncommon, and nifty.
Oddly enough, having just looked at the weather… 67 degrees is just not warm enough for me if the sun isn’t shining. If it has to be raining, I’d like it to be a solid 75 degrees, if that’s all right…
It’s funny, if you get your hardware laser-etched, it sounds like it voids the warranty. “When you have a laser, everything starts looking laserable…” They’re laser-etching food, crazy bastards! (I love it.) Yes, I did say FOOD! Sushi-related food, whee!
Laser-etching, wikis, podcasting… Where are we now? AH! The walk-in music was actually tracks from the podcast, Limor just said! Score! I am pleased.
I think I really need a subscription to Make: Magazine. And I wonder about Craft…
These folks sell things on Etsy too—interesting! And Limor showed a page—this page—where it’s possible to make a little portable usb power source… I wonder if this would work similarly with firewire… I could
USE one of these…
Limor is talking about the Samsung guy who wanted to know if they could put something like her cell jammer in their phone to block only other phones… she was explaining that it was illegal… and Phil goes, “They didn’t care, they’re like, we can get lobbyists…”
Don’t throw away your old iPod! Apparently you can replace the battery and the hard drive and poof, you have new hardware. Or something! I don’t even CARE! I’m sleepy and I love it here. Now if only I had a hotel room down here, so I could take a nap…
Also, Limor pronounces her name with the emphasis on the second syllable—L’mor, even. Also, she’s way cute. Man, cute geek girls just push all my buttons!
