It’s weirdly relaxing to no longer be running on Ohio West Coast time.
I wake up around six or six-thirty in the morning. Occasionally it’s seven. Once or twice it’s been eight. Sometimes, if I was up particularly late the night before, I go back to bed until nine or so… but that doesn’t seem to happen too often, at least from the last week and a half. I like waking up early. It’s very quiet (after the kids are off to school, that is). But there’s another quality to early mornings that seems calm and focused – makes me calm and focused. Very calm. Very focused.
Isn’t that funny?
I’d stopped waking up early in Youngstown because my friends worked evenings, and we went out afterwards. I was rarely asleep before 3am. So it made the most sense to keep myself on an ‘Ohio West Coast’ schedule: Asleep at three, up at ten or eleven, with my workday usually going from eleven to seven or eight, or later, or as long as the people I wanted to spend time with were still working. Sometimes they’d work till eleven themselves, and I’d pride myself on my (very long) 12 hour work day. (Oy.)
So far I haven’t felt the hour’s difference between Youngstown and Austin, not really. But I have felt the difference between Ohio West Coast time and Early Bird Retains Her Sanity time. As crazy as I was for the first week I was here (and I’m not saying I’ve quite finished, just that it was more obvious), it’s making enough of a difference to help me pretend I’m okay. And pretending is just as good, yeah? :P
Today we have some projects and pianos to pursue, and are tentatively planning to put air in the bike tires, maybe go for a walk, maybe spend some time with cleaning products to make the bathroom livable. (Marty doesn’t seem to mind as much as I do, but I bought him lunch yesterday.)
There was talk of Cool River this evening, but I think I’m going to wait and see how I feel later. I’m not sure I’m quite up to going out and having fun yet. I mean, I crunched numbers yesterday. All day. Gosh, I think I’m feeling faint just thinking about it.
